Easy simple and yummy home remedy to help our scratchy lungs cope better with the smoky air. Acupuncture (of course) helps too!Literally and figuratively the air has been thick with smoke and heartache here.
Today I went to my Ayurvedic books for uplift and inspiration and also looking for help to soothe and moisten the throat and the lungs. I was reminded of a simple remedy we can make at home to help support our respiratory system.
✨🍐✨
Slice a few pears (the more, the better).
Add fresh ginger, a few diced dates, some star anise, a cinnamon stick.
Bring to a boil, then cover and let it simmer for 10-15min.
Half way through can add organic licorice root (I used a tea bag). Can also add fresh lemon juice at the end.

Eat the pears and drink the juice throughout the day. I like to drink it hot. It’s delicious!

As I made it and took it in with all my senses, I was reminded how something similar was the very remedy I was given eons ago as a child when fighting a bad winter cold in Romania. Unexpected fuzzy memories...

Sarana is a Pali (ancient Buddhist) word for refuge. It can stand for retreat but also for the haven of supportive community. We chose this name to emphasize our intention for our clinic to be a safe space and acknowledging our shared humanity and interdependence.
